It is true that I dropped most of them… which is good indicator of the season as a whole. While we got a few very enjoyable anime, most of them were simply unbearable. I started this season watching a lot of them (mostly for the good of this blog) but I failed miserably. I suppose I don’t hate myself enough…

  • Aku No Hana : I’m a director of photography and graphic designer… meaning animation is very important for me. I seem to understand, from seeing reviews around the web, that the story is actually very good. So I really hate being the dude criticizing a show for trying something different with animation… but I do feel that there’s a huge difference between being different and being crappy. This show looks crappy. not worth it
  • Arata Kangatari : Why should I f*cking care about a high school student with trust issue being magically teleported to an other world where only he can save the world because he’s just speciaal. He’s not special, you’re not special, no one is. not worth it
  • Chihayafuru 2 : Just as the first season, Chihayafuru is proving itself to be truly great. I love the pacing of the story… slow enough to let us sink in the emotions, yet fast enough to keep our attention. Every episode makes you go into a roller coster of feelings. I sincerely hope that we’re gonna get a third season ! The ending is really open for it so let’s just wait and see. highly recommended
  • Date a Live : I could not even finish the first episode ? not worth it
  • Devil survivor 2 : I guess this show would be the opposite of Aku No Hana… a crappy story with “beautiful” animation. Beautiful might not be the right word here, it was too clean and generic. Good design animation will only keep people interested into your anime for few episodes. not worth it
  • Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge : I can’t even… process who’s the target audience for this crap. not worth it
  • Ginga Kikoutai Majestic Prince : This show was too… boring. If you’re gonna have a shitty story line for more comedy you’re better be really funny. It was not. not worth it
  • Hataraku Maou-sama! : I did watch the whole thing, because the first few episode were really funny. However it did not end well… the show quickly became gimmicky and not interesting. The rather large amounts  of characters made them shallow. “He’s the dark lord… we must hate him, but he’s good for some reason.” The show could have gone with a different direction, showing that being good or evil is mostly a perspective thing. But instead they made a “beach” episode. meuh
  • Karneval : I made a whole post about what I think of Karneval (here)… in short, this show had has much substance as a few frame .gif on tumblr. The animation and the characters where really nicely done, but you need more then that. not worth it
  • Photo Kano : lame teenager with a dslr taking pictures of girls ? not worth it
  • Red Data Girl : Yet an other one I really tried to watch… but failed. I hate when anime portrait girls in constant need of a man to protect them. I assume the show is targeted to a young adult male audience who would very much like to feel protective over a weak little girl ? not worth it
  • Shingeki no Kyojin : Yet to be over (continuing during the summer season) , this anime prove itself to be pure entertainment. I don’t have a bad thing to say about it. Everything is perfect for me and I can’t wait to see where the series will go. highly recommended
  • Suisei no Gargantia : Perfect animation, perfect characters and perfect themes. It’s one of those short and incredibly well made anime. I liked the overall quest of finding a meaning of life and the struggle of understanding each other. I like the evolution that main character (Ledo) had to go trough to adapt to his new environment. I also very much enjoyed all the conversation with his personal artificial intelligence assistance system (Chamber). It was reminiscent of the AI of the robots in Ghost in the Shell. I will certainly watch this again. highly recommended
  • Kakumeiki Valvrave : meuh… seriously i tried watching it, i think i even made it to episode 7 or something. It was just boring and absurd. not worth it
  • Yahari Ore no Seishun : I don’t really have strong feeling toward this one. It’s an okay anime. Not too boring, not too funny. But I did fast forward during few episode… I suppose that there’s a point where even if the show is funny, you can’t see yet an other school festival being organize. okay
